Preparing for Your Puppy
A simple checklist to get your home ready before go-home day.
A little preparation makes the first week calmer for everyone - including your puppy.
Before go-home day
- Book a vet visit for within 72 hours of bringing your puppy home
- Puppy-proof the rooms your puppy will spend time in - cords, small objects, and anything chewable
- Decide where your puppy will sleep, eat, and go potty
- Talk as a family about house rules, so everyone is consistent from day one
Supplies checklist
- A crate sized for your puppy, with a divider to adjust as they grow
- Food and water bowls
- The same food your puppy has been eating with us - ask us what that is
- A collar or harness and a leash
- An ID tag with your phone number
- Soft bedding that can be washed
- Chew toys for teething
- Enzyme cleaner for accidents
- A slicker brush and comb for that doodle coat
The first few days
Keep things quiet and simple. Short play sessions, plenty of naps, frequent trips outside, and a consistent routine help your puppy settle in quickly. If anything worries you, call us - we're here long after go-home day.
